In the article "Orphaned, Raped, and Ignored", Nicholas D. Kristof wrote about the pointless barbaric war of the Kutu malitia and how their senseless killings of innocent men, women, and children need to be stopped. In response to the authors stance, I am defending due to the reason that murder and rapings of innocent children should not be tolerated and come to an end.
In this situation, a young girl named Chance has been raped and witnessed the death of her fellow family members. It has been said that the malitia "kill, rape, and take other peoples belongings" for power, but what kind of power is it when one has taken the integrity from a young girl? Instead of fighting back, or trying to stop this crisis, fellow town people let the murders carry on, resulting in many young women becoming abandoned or "dis-owned" from their family and community. Once a young girl in this war has been raped she has a difficulty getting married and automatically is viewed as having little to no value to their name. This type of behavior should be stopped due to that it is unjust and unethical. Since the young women didn't ask for this type of treatment upon them why should they be treated with such apathy? Since this war is being viewed as being "pointless", why should the murders and rapings be taken so lightly? Rape of any kind leaves young women with psychological dispostions/problems and also sexually transmitted diseases that both need close attention in order to heal from. These young girls should not have to live their lives with torment for a governments lack of secruity of its people.
